Starting your fitness journey can feel exciting… and a little overwhelming.
You buy the gym clothes. You sign up for a membership. You tell yourself, “This is the time I’m finally going to stick with it.”
Then reality kicks in.
What if I hate it?
What if I don’t know what I’m doing?
How much exercise do I actually need?
If you’ve asked yourself any of those questions, you’re not alone. In fact, they’re three of the most common questions we hear from people before they join DM Elite.
Let’s answer them.
1. “What if I hate the gym?”
Here’s the thing…
Not everyone enjoys a traditional gym environment.
Rows of treadmills, people wearing headphones, everyone doing their own thing, it can feel intimidating if you’ve never been before.
And that’s okay.
The best form of exercise isn’t the one that’s scientifically “perfect.”
It’s the one you’ll actually keep doing.
Some people love lifting weights.
Others prefer group training.
Some enjoy running, swimming, cycling or classes.
The key is finding something that suits your personality and lifestyle.
That’s exactly why we built DM Elite differently. We wanted to create a place where people felt supported rather than judged, coached rather than left to figure things out alone.
If you’re looking at different gyms or fitness classes, don’t be afraid to shop around. Most facilities offer a trial, and it’s worth finding somewhere you genuinely enjoy going.
Because consistency is far easier when you actually look forward to turning up.
2. “How long do I need to work out?”
Probably less than you think.
You don’t need to spend two hours in the gym every day to see results.
In fact, if you’re training with purpose, 30–60 minutes is more than enough for most people.
At DM Elite, our sessions last around 50 minutes, including your warm-up and cool-down.
They’re designed to fit around busy lives while still giving you everything you need to get stronger, fitter and healthier.
The important thing isn’t squeezing in the longest workout possible.
It’s making your workouts count.
A well-structured session that challenges you and progresses over time will always beat wandering around the gym for 90 minutes without a plan.
And remember…
Three consistent workouts every week will achieve far more than one huge workout every now and then.
3. “Why don’t I do what I know I should?”
This is probably the biggest question in fitness.
Most people already know the basics.
Eat more vegetables.
Move more.
Drink more water.
Get enough sleep.
The challenge usually isn’t knowing what to do.
It’s doing it consistently.
We call this the behaviour gap.
Life gets busy.
Work becomes stressful.
The kids get ill.
Motivation disappears.
And suddenly the habits you wanted to build become much harder to stick to.
So how do you bridge that gap?
Do something you enjoy.
If you hate every workout and every meal, you’re relying on willpower forever.
Find movement and food choices you genuinely like.
Find accountability.
Whether it’s a coach, a training partner or a supportive community, you’re much more likely to stay consistent when someone is in your corner.
Stop aiming for perfection.
One missed workout doesn’t mean you’ve failed.
One takeaway doesn’t ruin your progress.
Progress comes from what you do most of the time – not from being perfect all of the time.
The Bottom Line
Starting your fitness journey doesn’t have to be complicated.
You don’t need to know everything before you begin.
You don’t need to love every workout.
You don’t need endless hours to train.
And you definitely don’t need to be perfect.
Focus on finding something you enjoy, build habits you can realistically stick to, and remember that consistency will always beat perfection.
The hardest part is often getting started.
Once you do, you’ll probably realise you were capable all along.
