Frequently Asked Questions
What is Small Group Personal Training at DM Elite?
Small Group Personal Training (SGPT) combines the individual coaching of personal training with the motivation and community of training in a small group.
At DM Elite, every 50-minute session is planned and led by a professional coach. Members train alongside others, but exercises, weights and intensity can be adapted to suit each person’s ability, experience and goals.
Unlike a traditional gym membership, you’re not left to figure things out on your own. And unlike a large fitness class, the focus is on individual coaching within the group.
It gives you the coaching of personal training, with the energy and accountability of a group.
Do I need to be fit before starting at DM Elite?
DM Elite is suitable for complete beginners, including people who have never trained in a gym before. We are a gym for people that don’t like gyms. DM Elite coaches adapt exercises, weights and training intensity to each individual, allowing members to train at an appropriate level within Small Group Personal Training sessions.
Am I too old to start training at DM Elite?
Am I too old to start?
No. There is no upper age limit for starting at DM Elite. DM Elite works with adults of all ages, including many people in their 50s, 60s and beyond.
Small Group Personal Training sessions are coached and exercises can be adapted to suit each person’s current fitness level, experience and ability. You don’t need to already be fit or have previous gym experience to get started. If you have any long standing injuries DM Elite are adept at working around that and making sure you get what you need from a workout.
For many DM Elite members, the goal isn’t about becoming an ‘athlete’ as we may know it, more so an ‘athlete for every day life’. It’s about getting stronger, moving better, maintaining independence and feeling more confident in everyday life as they get older.
Can DM Elite help me exercise during menopause?
Yes. DM Elite supports many women who are going through perimenopause and menopause and want to continue exercising, get stronger and feel more confident in their bodies.
DM Elite’s Small Group Personal Training sessions combine strength, cardiovascular fitness and mobility, with coaches able to adapt exercises and training intensity to suit the individual.
Every woman’s experience of menopause is different, so training doesn’t need to look the same for everyone. The aim is to help you build strength, stay active and create a consistent approach to exercise that works for you.
Can I train at DM Elite if I have an old injury?
In many cases, yes. DM Elite coaches regularly work with people who have previous injuries, aches, pains or limitations and can adapt exercises to suit the individual. We have helped members post knee and hip replacements as well as shoulder surgery.
Before training, it’s important to let the coaching team know about any existing injuries or concerns. Exercises, range of movement, resistance and intensity can then be adjusted where appropriate, while still helping you get stronger, move better and improve your fitness.
If an injury requires medical assessment or rehabilitation, DM Elite may recommend getting advice from an appropriate healthcare professional before or alongside training.
How often should I train at DM Elite?
Most DM Elite members train three times per week on average, although the right amount depends on your goals, experience, lifestyle and other activity.
DM Elite’s Small Group Personal Training sessions are designed to work together across the week, helping members improve strength, fitness and movement without needing to train every day. Our programming is always full body based – compromising of strength work, along side cardiovascular and core training.
For most people, consistency matters more than doing as much as possible. The DM Elite coaching team can help you find a training frequency that is realistic, sustainable and works around your life.
How long are DM Elite training sessions?
DM Elite Small Group Personal Training sessions last 50 minutes. With lots of flexibility over the week to suit those with busy schedules. You can mix and match days and times that suit you best – allowing for more flexibility than 1:1 training.
Each session is coach-led and structured to make effective use of your time, combining appropriate strength, fitness and movement work depending on the session.
The aim is to provide a high-quality, focused workout without needing to spend hours in the gym.
How much does DM Elite cost?
The average DM Elite membership costs £169 every four weeks, which works out at around £42 per week or £14 per coached session when training three times per week.
That’s significantly less than typical one-to-one personal training at around £40–£50 per session, while still providing the same level of professional coaching and individual exercise adaptations and personal goal centred training.
Members can also pay annually upfront and save the equivalent of two four-weekly payments, bringing the average cost down to around £143 every 4 weeks, 35.75 per week or £11.92 per coached session.
What makes DM Elite different from a traditional gym?
DM Elite is a coach-led Small Group Personal Training gym, designed for people who want more support, structure and accountability than a traditional gym membership.
Rather than arriving and being left to train on your own, every DM Elite session is planned and led by a coach from the moment you arrive, until the moment you leave. Exercises and workouts can be adapted to your ability, experience and individual needs, while you still get the motivation and community of training alongside other people.
It combines much of the personal attention of one-to-one training with the energy, accountability and a more affordable method of being coached by a personal trainer on a regular basis. Therefore, a much higher chance of achieving the results you’d like.
DM Elite calls itself “the gym for people who don’t like gyms” because the focus is on helping people enjoy training, feel comfortable and make fitness a sustainable part of their life.
